Islands First Distillery Approved

First Island Distillery moves forward as planning permission is granted.

  • A milestone has been reached and now work can begin on the latest addition to the family of Distilleries in the Outer Hebrides. Planning permission has been granted for a new 15.4-million-pound Single Malt whisky distillery that will be located on the small Island of Fuday, just of the northern point of the Isle of Barra.

This latest addition to the rising number of Distilleries across Scotland will produce the Islands first single malt whisky along with gin, rum and it is rumoured that red wine will be also produced with land acquired for a small vineyard around 500 yards walk from the Distillery site.

Employee’s and visitors will take the short 20-minute boat crossing from Eoligarry jetty. There will be a sailing both in the morning and evening for employees to catch and then in the summer seasons there will be 7 scheduled sailings through the day to ferry visitors too and from the Distillery.

This will no doubt be a great addition to the Outer Hebrides and will further boost the local economy and it would be foolish to mis out on this opportunity.
