It’s all about Lamlash House this week

It’s been an exhilarating week of hard work and development for the Isle of Barra Distillers yet again. There’s never a dull moment in the Gin Industry, that’s for sure! This week we would like to share with you, the wonderful Lamlash House.

  • At the beginning of the year, we took a drive down to Newmilns, Ayrshire to visit Gordon and Jonathan, the proud owners of Lamlash House. We were welcomed into their stunning property with none other than a hot cup of tea (trust me it was much needed; it was blowing a hoolie that night!).

We were given a tour of Lamlash House, with an indulgence of inside stories and history in each room of the property. From the individual grand style and theme of each venue room to the old ‘staff quarters’ it’s what we would describe as walking into a scene from Downton Abbey. The passion and commitment from both Gordon and Jonathan are not only incredible, but extremely motivating. To be able to restore such a place and at a high standard, is remarkable. In fact, we were that impressed and thrilled that we had to have Lamlash House as a Stockist and Click & Collect Venue.

Lamlash House was built in 1890 as a Bank and adjoining Bank Manager’s House but following the closure of the Bank in 2014 after 124 years, the Victorian listed building has been painstakingly researched and sympathetically restored by its owners and has now opened its doors as a venue for small scale private events and functions. With the ground floor being a former bank, the theme has been meticulously carried throughout and the history not forgotten, where old coins and notes are framed on the wall, an old cash desk sits pride of place in the small lounge room. You’ll find yourself in awe of each designed space, making it a delightful setting.

The former walk-in vault has been transformed into the Art Deco-themed Strongroom Bar which while being one of the smallest licensed premises in Ayrshire, still boasts a large selection of wines and spirits which now includes the recent arrival of our Barra Atlantic Gin, to add to its extensive collection.

As the building celebrates its 130th anniversary in 2020 and starts a new chapter in its long heritage serving the community, we welcome Lamlash House to the growing list of the Isle of Barra Distillers Click & Collect locations across the UK. Allowing our customers quick access of our Island Spirit, for any last minute or emergency restocks.

If you are looking to celebrate a special occasion or wish for a unique experience, Lamlash House has it all. They are the masters of hosting bespoke events, afternoon tea’s, occasion parties and intimate dining experiences. Not to mention, they pour a mean Barra G&T!

We are thrilled to be working with Gordon and Jonathan and look forward to growing our relationship further, stay tuned for future collaborations and more Click & Collect venues popping up!
